Exploring by ROV: Whytecliff Park, West Vancouver (One of Canada's First Marine Protected Areas)

In this video we explore the steep ocean cliffs at Whytecliff Park, West Vancouver. This park is located along the southern shoreline of Howe Sound, which is North America's southernmost fjord. In 1993, Whytecliff Park became one of Canada’s first Marine Protected Areas. As a result, harvesting or collecting any marine life beneath the waters of this sanctuary is prohibited. Whytecliff Park is one of Vancouver most popular dive spots, offering views of unique sponge habitat and variety of rockfish species. In Part 1 of this video, we document our descent into a biologically rich subtidal landscape. This was by far the most interesting and deepest dive we have done to date. Stay tuned for Part 2: The Ascent. Enjoy!
